Denis LARUE
Denis Larue original comic art for sale.
Belgian comic book artist Denis Larue was born in Brussels in 1965. Since 1991, he has been a Professor of Comics at the Saint Luc Higher School of Arts in Brussels.
From 1993 to 1996, Denis Larue published several short stories in direct color in the famous French magazine À Suivre. The scripts were written by Gabrielle Morile. We are offering for sale a selection of original acrylic pages from these short stories.
In 2000, sent by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, he founded the Comics Department at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan, Morocco, where he mentored the first graduating classes and launched the magazine “Chouf.” His pedagogical approach, focused on graphic experimentation and storytelling, has had a lasting influence on the Moroccan comics scene.
Since returning to Saint-Luc in 2003, Denis Larue has continued his teaching work, training new generations of authors. He is now recognized for his role as a mentor and initiator, both in Belgium and Morocco.
In 2009, with his friend and screenwriter Christian Durieux, Denis Larue created Ether’s house (co-written and illustrated), a graphic novel set in the medina of Tetouan that showcases their narrative mastery and poetic sensibility. We are pleased to present a selection of original artwork from this graphic novel, done in gouache.
Whether the themes of his stories are romantic relationships or introspection during travels, Denis Larue’s storytelling is attentive to variations, contemplation, and languid moments. His work in acrylic and gouache explores nuances of light and multiplies contrasts, deliberately avoiding flat areas of color.
Original drawings and comic book art by Denis Larue are available for purchase exclusively at Galerie de la Bande Dessinée.
