Sale of original comic art (original drawings, original illustrations) by French comic book artist Alex W. Inker.
Alex W. Inker’s original for sale at Galerie de la Bande Dessinée, is published in these graphic novels : Apache, Panama Al Brown, Serving the People, A Job Like Any Other, Colorado Train, and Krimi.
Born in 1986 in Maubeuge, Alex W. Inker graduated in 2006 from the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels with a degree in Comics. He also holds a Master’s degree in Cinema. In addition to his work as a writer and illustrator, he taught at the University of Lille 3, where he explored the links between cinema and comics.
While Robert Crumb was his favorite author during his teenage years, Alex W. Inker later discovered other authors of alternative American comics such as Dan Clowes, Charles Burns, Chris Ware, Seth, Chester Brown, Joe Sacco, and more. It is therefore natural to see each of his stories give pride of place to humanity, through the hopes, clumsiness, and failures of his characters, often battered by a merciless daily life.
His first comic book, Apache, was published by Editions Sarbacane in 2016. It received the SNCF Crime Fiction Prize in 2017. His second story, Panama Al Brown, unfolds in 1930s Paris, as an illustrated biography of a high-society boxer and lover of French poet Jean Cocteau.
Alex W. Inker’s third comic book, Serving the People, was released in 2018. Serving the People is an adaptation of Yan Lianke’s novel. The author parodies the Chinese propaganda comics circulating during the Cultural Revolution. The savory and uninhibited erotic scenes between a Chinese soldier and his superior’s wife magnify romantic and political disillusionment.
In 2020, A Job Like Any Other adapted the novel by American writer Virginia Reeves (Stock, 2016). Set against the socio-economic backdrop of the Great Depression, Alex W. Inker’s drawing draws inspiration from the reports of Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange and Margaret Bourke-White.
In 2022, while working on the Colorado Train graohic novel, the artist returned to teaching. He leads workshops and teaches screenwriting classes at Pole IIID (Comics/Illustration/Animation department of the Catholic University of Lille).
In 2022, Alex W. Inker published Colorado Train, a detective story featuring teenagers and a serial killer in Colorado. This comic book won the Coup de Coeur award at the Quai des Bulles festival in October 2022.
Published in 2025, the graphic novel Krimi is a magnificent homage to German Expressionism, set in 1930s Germany, in the company of the famous director Fritz Lang. The original art, done with ink and charcoal , is magnificent.
